Camp Don Bosco in the Valley is operated by the Salesians of Don Bosco, a religious order of the Catholic Church. Our Summer Camp exists for the purpose of serving the youth in Essex County, NJ. We hope through a day-camp experience to enrich their social, emotional, physical, and spiritual life in a safe, fun, and friendly environment. Through the use of many activities, games, sports, outings, meals, and special events we will emphasize growth in personal character, faith, relationships, communication, respect, friendship, generousity, and much more. It is our sincere desire to transform our young people into exemplary citizens who are able to take the lessons they learn at Don Bosco in the Valley and share them with their peers and families during and after their time at camp.
To ensure that these goals take place all Salesian Priests and Brothers who operate the camp have been trained in Don Bosco's modern methods of youth work the foundation of which is based on reason, religion, loving-kindness, and presence. All camp staff will also receive training in this system. Our staff will be with the campers constantly to teach and empower them in areas of teamwork, group spirit, fair play, winning modestly, and losing gracefully. In short, the campers will learn how to love God above all things and to love their neighbor as themselves in a concrete, practical manner.
